HELP: What's available to run wire to the jacks?

  • Existing Pipe/Conduit: Basically a small pipe from 1/2 to1 1/2 inches in diameter is installed in the wall before the sheetrock is put in place. If you have removable ceiling tiles you can remove the ceiling tile and look above the wall to see if a pipe exists running to the jack. Conduit can also be run exposed on a surface, this is also very common.

  • Crawlspace/Basement: A space that a person can fit through in order to route the wire to a location above or below the wall you would like the jack in. Generally, a basement, attic or crawlspace.

  • Hollow Walls: With or without insulation, cables may be run inside hollow walls and a box installed in the wall for a jack.

  • Ceiling w/ Removable Tiles: You have access to the space above your ceiling.

  • Add new conduit: Used in remodeled areas and new construction or on the outside of solid walls.

  • Add new wiremold: Used on impenetrable surfaces to get jacks to locations where you otherwise wouldn't. Very nice finished look.
